About

Martin Monk is a filmmaker from Berlin, Germany. While studying history and philosophy, he became interested in cinema and – after first experiences on film sets – realised that this was his calling.

He wrote and directed Favoriten, a short road movie tracing the steps of a runaway girl in search of her estranged father, which premiered at the prestigious Cinéfondation Selection of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. The film was nominated for the German Short Film Award and an official candidate for the European Film Awards, as well as garnering over 200,000 views online. In 2023, he completed his Master’s degree in Directing at Film Academy Vienna, where he had studied with renowned Austrian auteur Michael Haneke.

Martin has also frequently worked in commercial video and photo production and creation. His creativity, professionalism and flexibility have been appreciated by clients such as Porsche, Fielmann and the non-profit D&AD. He lives and works in Berlin and Vienna.
