About
Martin Monk is a filmmaker and photographer from Berlin, Germany. Obsessed with stories from a young age, he fell hard for movies in the late Nineties and early Naughties – from Blockbusters to Art House and back. While studying history and philosophy, he later decided to dip his toes into filmmaking for real, and – after first experiences on sets – realised that this was his true calling.
After writing and directing several self-produced short films, he moved to Vienna and became a student of Michael Haneke and wrote and directed Favoriten, a live-action short that premiered at the prestigious Cinéfondation Selection of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. The film was nominated for the German short film award, the European Film Awards and the Austrian Film Prize. He eventually completed his M.A. in Directing at Film Academy Vienna in 2023 and is currently developping his feature film debut.
Martin has also frequently worked in commercial image production and creation. From concept to shoot and through post-production, his creativity and professionalism is appreciated by renowned clients, corporations and agencies.
